People, especially women, are threatened continually in their every day surroundings. They face violence in their communities, in their homes and in the workplace. The continuous threat dominates the core of their existence, affecting the way women think and behave. (1) Recently there have been calls in the media for compulsory HIV testing of rape perpetrators. (2,3) The Minister of Women, Children and Persons with Disabilities, Noluthando Mayende-Sibiya, said that rape victims should be encouraged to apply for compulsory HIV testing of alleged rapists. (3)
